STUDY GUIDE

Agenda Item A: Addressing the issue of non-proliferation in relation to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) following its conduct of the underground nuclear tests

Agenda Item B: Resolving the matter pertaining to the political status of Nagorno-Karabakh

The United Nations Security Council was created as one of the United Nations’ six principal organs after World War II. Year by year, the Security Council gained the primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security with the existing Member States which comprises five permanent members, including China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Ten non-permanent members are getting elected by the General Assembly, considering their contributions to international peace, security, and equitable geographical distribution.

The UN Security Council adopts responsibility in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression, presents ways of adjusting the terms of settlement, and encourages parties to a conflict to settle it peacefully.

In LegacyMUN’23, the delegates of the United Nations Security Council will be allocated to have the examination of “Addressing the issue of non-proliferation in relation to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) following its conduct of the underground nuclear tests”

and “Resolving the matter pertaining to the political status of Nagorno-Karabakh” agenda items. We expect delegates to have the awareness for the role of Security Council upon the matters and lead that role to the future as best as possible.
